Travel Tips and Best Time for a Tigre Delta Boat Ride, Buenos Aires, Argentina

Essential Tips for Tigre Delta Boat Ride

How to Get There

Boat rides in the Tigre Delta depart from Terminal Fluvial de Tigre. Terminal Fluvial de Tigre is about an hour away from Buenos Aires. There are two main ways to reach Terminal Fluvial de Tigre from Buenos Aires. Take a train to Tigre Station, then another local train to Delta Station. From there, it’s about a 100-meter walk to the terminal. Alternatively, take a taxi. It costs about the same, is much faster, and takes you directly to the terminal.

Recommended Tours

Private Safari Delta in Tigre Private boat tours allow us to sail in inflatable zodiac-type boats, giving us the chance to get down and walk through the floating plants of the Paraná River, as well as enjoy some time to swim. Group tour boats, being much larger, don’t allow for these experiences.

Where to Stay

Buenos Aires: NH City Buenos Aires
The hotel is located in the main area where all the federal buildings are situated, making it easily accessible for tour companies and taxis.

Book in Advance

If you can, book your boat ride online in advance. This saves time at the terminal and guarantees your spot.

Go Barefoot for the Wetland Walk

If you plan to get off the boat and walk through the wetlands or shallow river areas, it’s best to go barefoot. It adds to the experience and helps with balance on muddy ground.

Expect to Get Wet

Between walking through the water and possibly swimming, you’ll likely get wet. Bring a towel and maybe a change of clothes.

Best time to travel

September – November is the best time to visit the Tigre Delta, with sunny days and little to no rainfall, making boat rides and walks through the floating vegetation much more enjoyable. We went in December and it still wasn’t hot much and the weather was pleasant in the delta.

Watch the Weather

A sunny day makes the experience much more enjoyable, especially with open boats. Check the forecast before planning your trip.

Bring Snacks & Water

While there are riverside restaurants, it’s a good idea to carry water and light snacks during the boat ride.

Travelling With Kids

If you’re travelling with little kids and don’t want to go too far from Buenos Aires, this is a great spot for some fun and interesting family time.
